My Version of the coping sled.

When I make cabinet doors, cutting the ends of rails is the most trying and dangerous part.

Through the years I’ve looked at numerous coping sleds in person and online. Most were functional, but nothing ever seemed to fit in my shop. So, I took all that information and built one for myself that would best serve my needs. I needed something that was solid, flat bottomed, could be easily squared to the fence (on both the router table and shaper), and most of all SAFE!

I used V-Carve Pro to design this and milled the base on my CNC to keep the holes and slots square. I used 1/4” plexi for the fence guide, and a piece of oak to mount the clamps on. The work clamps are self-adjusting. The third clamp is for a sacrificial board, and we all know that board will help prevent tear-out on the rails. The sliding work stops are just to keep everything from moving, and can be replaced with clamps if needed.

The sled slides beautifully along the shaper top and fence. With the shaper I am able to cut a full profile in one pass. Love it!
